Fire safety training in the store
24.07.2020 01:29We recently came across the 2019 report of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Ukraine by chance and the statistics were horrifying. In 2019, 95,915 fires were registered in Ukraine, killing 1,902 people. Direct and indirect losses amounted to UAH 10,622,337.
Almost all fires were caused by human error. In terms of the causes of fires, only 169 were caused by malfunctioning production equipment, while 11,075 fires were caused by violations of fire safety rules in the installation and operation of electrical equipment. And the main cause of 70,061 fires was careless handling of fire (smoking in unauthorized places is included here).

In order to prevent, or rather avoid, such dangerous situations, each company must conduct a Fire Safety Instruction (FSI).
The main document regulating the organization of safety briefings is Order No. 1417 of 30.12.2014 "On Approval of Fire Safety Rules in Ukraine".
Occupational safety and health training, as well as occupational health and safety training, is divided into:
- introductory
- primordial
- повторний
- unscheduled
- target.
Introductory safety briefing is mandatory for all employees who have been hired, as well as for all those who visit the company to perform official duties (temporary replacement of an official, business trips, etc.), for training, internships or excursions.
During the introductory safety briefing, the responsible person familiarizes the employee with the company's safety system, tells them what to do in case of a fire and teaches them the rules of behavior to prevent dangerous situations. During the training, employees are familiarized with the evacuation plan, the warning system, and given instructions on how to use a fire extinguisher.
This briefing can be conducted for a group of people or for one person.
Initial briefing on fire safety
The initial OHS briefing is a continuation of the introductory briefing, but it is conducted at the workplace, before starting work. During this briefing, it is explained what exactly can be done in the workplace and what actions are prohibited and dangerous from the point of view of occupational safety. Also, the responsible person tells what actions the employee should take in case of a fire.
Repeated instruction on fire safety
Refresher training is aimed at updating and maintaining the knowledge gained after the introductory and initial training. All employees should undergo it once a year.
Specialists from the Ministry of Emergencies of Ukraine can be invited to conduct such briefings. They provide training, share examples from their own experience and encourage employees to comply with the requirements of the OHS regulations.
Unscheduled fire safety briefing
Unscheduled safety briefings are usually held after a fire has occurred at an enterprise, or if there have been gross violations of safety rules that almost led to a fire. The scope and content of such briefing is determined depending on the causes and consequences of such a situation.
Targeted fire safety training
Targeted safety briefings are conducted before employees perform one-time work, for example, when responding to an accident or natural disaster.
Ensuring occupational safety and health at an enterprise is the direct responsibility of the owner or manager of such an enterprise or organization, but the responsibility for conducting occupational safety and health briefings usually lies with the person responsible for occupational safety and health at the enterprise. That is, such a person is appointed by the manager.
The responsible person is appointed by order, against signature, and then a sign with the name of such person and his or her phone number is placed in each room. However, it should be noted that a person who has undergone appropriate training can only be responsible for health and safety, i.e., the first available employee cannot be appointed.
