GPT chat has been around for a little over six months, but has already managed to gain a foothold in various areas of human activity. Millions of users have gained access to a computerised robot with which they can have a dialogue on almost any topic. The e-commerce sector has not been spared by the technology.
Chatbots can be used to communicate with customers, take orders, set up advertising campaigns, write texts and posts on social media, and even manage a store. How can artificial intelligence technology be useful in retail?
Will GPT chat replace most retail professions?
According to experts, in the near future, this tool will be able to significantly simplify their work, if not replace many professions. In particular, it will free up employees' time to develop creative and critical thinking. For store owners, the introduction of AI technologies will save resources and money, as most processes can be automated.
But this is all in theory. In reality, you need to cooperate with AI technologies rather than compete with them: find non-standard ways to solve problems, combine your own efforts and the robot's capabilities.
In particular, salespeople and online marketers engaged in content and brand promotion should study the possibilities, advantages, and disadvantages of GPT chat to improve their work and companies, on the one hand, and maintain their value as professionals, on the other.
What is GPT chat?
ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is a chatbot developed by OpenAI that allows users to communicate with artificial intelligence using deep learning techniques.
GPT can generate logical and accurate answers to questions and messages users enter in the chat interface. It uses an intelligent model that analyses the context, understands the meaning of the query, and provides an adequate answer to a clearly stated question.
ChatGPT in Ukraine
Since its launch at the end of November 2022, GPT chat has been at the epicentre of the most discussed topics on the Internet. Since February 2023, Ukrainians have also been able to access the platform, which no longer requires VPNs and foreign numbers. You can register for the service using your email and phone number.
The basic version of the chat is free of charge. To get advanced chat functionality, there is a paid version - ChatGPT Plus, which will cost $20 per month. Users will also be able to use the service during peak loads and much faster than with a standard account.
The chat recognises many languages, including Ukrainian. At the moment, it is not well versed in the Ukrainian context, as its knowledge base is only loaded until 2021. However, chat skills are being improved every day, so this shortcoming will be corrected very soon.
GPT chat opportunities in sales and marketing
GPT chat as a manager
Artificial intelligence technology really simplifies the work of marketers and sales professionals who are directly involved in customer service. It is already being actively used to create interactive chatbots, virtual assistants, customer support systems, and other applications that require user interaction via text input.
GPT chat can be supplemented with specific rules, context, or additional data to better meet the needs of the trading business.
1. Customer service
Online merchants use the GPT chatbot to provide quick and accurate answers to customer questions: information about products, check availability, sizes, colours, prices; recommendations for similar products or help solve problems with ordering. In other words, a chatbot performs the function of a regular chatbot, but with more accurate and "human" answers.
Have a look at this example of a response to a customer's negative feedback about receiving a defective product generated by chat:
2. Personalised offers
The GPT chatbot analyses customer data, preferences, and previous purchases and is able to create personalised offers. For example, it can recommend products that are potentially interesting to the customer, provide discounts on pre-selected products, or offer related products, which increases the possibility of selling additional products. This contributes to greater customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.
3. Return abandoned shopping carts
GPT chat can be used as an assistant that analyses abandoned shopping carts and sends automated messages to re-engage with customers. It can offer a promotional code for a discount or other bonus to motivate customers to complete the purchase.
AI technology is also able to identify the reasons for abandoning added items to the basket and improve the processing of subsequent orders or the payment process.
4. Optimisation of the purchase process
The GPT chatbot helps to simplify the purchase process for customers. It provides instructions on registration, checkout and payment methods, order status updates, and answers questions about delivery.
5. Inventory management
Retailers turn to chatbots to forecast demand for products and determine the amount of stock needed. It can monitor the store's warehouses and report where there is a surplus and a shortage of goods. In general, it synchronises orders with the warehouse and delivery service.
How to connect chat.gov to an online store?
In order to integrate ChatGPT into business processes, you need two things: a chatbot and an accounting system API. To develop a chatbot based on GPT technology, you can turn to third-party developers.
Use the CRM system's API to enable the chatbot to interact with CRM data. For example, it can access customer information from the CRM, update data, or perform actions in the CRM system based on the dialogue with customers.
GPT chat as an idea generator
1. Creating a content plan
With the introduction of GPT chat, the work of marketers and content managers has become much easier, as ideas for blog posts or advertising messages can now be drawn from a chatbot.
Be sure to specify your query by giving the bot additional input data that will tell it in which direction to look for information. It's better not to mix the types of queries but to create new chats.
GPT chat can also help with other routine tasks that are performed in e-commerce on a regular basis. For example, creating product descriptions and characteristics for the website and CRM system, scripts for the contact centre, filling in the FAQ section, etc.
2. Marketing campaigns
With the help of a chatbot built into a CRM system, you can conduct marketing campaigns: develop promotions and promotional activities, build customer databases for sending out advertising messages, analyse the effectiveness of the activity on different groups of consumers, and improve advertising messages in the future based on the identified shortcomings.
GPT chat as an assistant for operators
1. Functions of a business assistant
GPT chat can facilitate the work of not only staff but also management: analyse financial and business indicators, provide recommendations for improving work processes. For example, by integrating with your accounting software, the chatbot can read sales data and advise which products are more profitable for the store and which ones are stale and out of date.
The bot can also analyse reports and remind you when to submit them to the tax authorities. It will also help managers distribute tasks among colleagues and monitor deadlines faster.
2. Assistant to the HR manager
ChatGPT is also useful in recruitment. According to forecasts, its potential in this area is quite powerful. Using the bot's suggestions, HR specialists can post vacancies, accept applications and review CVs, and even select suitable candidates and schedule interviews.
3. Monitoring brand mentions and SERM
The chatbot's functionality is so powerful that it can be used by PR specialists to track mentions of a company or store on the Internet. The bot will independently collect negative reviews about the brand from search engines and, most interestingly, give advice on how to process them and interact with consumers to avoid hate.
According to a study by Amazon employees, there may be many more ideas for using artificial intelligence in business than currently exist. For instance, experts predict that ChatGPT will be used to analyse competitors' financial reports, assess the advantages and disadvantages of brands, and create cloud products.
