How to prepare a store for the New Year holidays in 2024

New Year holidays are a great opportunity to increase the average check and increase customer loyalty. By properly organizing sales, store owners can simultaneously sell the remains of goods in stock and increase profits. Revenue in the high season can reach 2-3 months, and the attendance of shopping centers and stores increases by 20-30%. 
What will be the New Year sales this year in Ukraine under martial law? It all depends on the situation in a particular region and, of course, on the economic component in the country. The lower the purchasing power of people, the lower the sales will be.

Prepare for sales in advance

For effective trading during the winter holidays, attracting new customers and warming up the interest of existing ones to your store, it is worth thinking over promotional offers and preparing an online store in advance. This will save you the hassle and unnecessary financial and reputational costs during the hot season. 

Take care of the product range 

Buyers mostly wait for the period of New Year sales to make cherished or necessary purchases at reduced prices. Order goods from suppliers at least a month in advance if you do not have enough in stock. 
You should also take care of expanding the range of your store. Add to the standard line - New Year and Christmas. Even if you sell non-entertainment goods (tools, furniture, pet products), do not be lazy to order a festive series that would best fit into your business segment. This applies not only to decorating the sales area of the store, but also to diluting the assortment itself. Christmas tree decorations, souvenirs, inexpensive seasonal goods (firecrackers, sparklers), although they will not raise the average check too much, will attract more customers to the shelves.

Plan advertising campaigns

Use the opportunities of different sales channels. Develop thematic promotional products that need to be sold or with which to draw attention to the store. 
To increase the number of contacts with potential customers, launch advertising campaigns in social networks or contextual advertising in Google Ads. The latter is best suited for businesses that already have stable sales but need to increase their customer base. But if you have a limited budget for online advertising, focus on promoting products through social networks. This is a relatively inexpensive way to attract an audience and increase brand awareness. 

Think about contests and promotions

If your business is represented on the Internet, there is nothing easier than to prepare your store for the winter holidays with the help of interesting promotions and giveaways. In order for your customers to get the most out of the purchase, and you to increase the average check during the hot season, combine different options for promotions using discounts:

Classic discounts up to -99%

Unlike the promotion, the discount has no time period and special conditions that affect the possibility of purchase. However, you should not make discounts permanent, because then they lose their value. Apply discounts to certain events or holidays. 
It is better to arrange grand sales at a clearly defined time for all goods, and not selectively. This, firstly, will increase sales and free up space in the warehouse. Secondly, it will not cause customers to feel that they were lured to the store by low prices (which in fact do not differ from prices on ordinary days) for goods of dubious quality. 
Do not use too expressive advertising of discounts on holidays. This can also repel customers. In advertising messages, focus on the emotional component, urging people to "give warmth and comfort".

  • If you have an offline store, decorate the windows, entrance and facade with appropriate New Year's decor. Install LED lights or neon bulbs; put the right size Christmas tree, which decorate with stylized toys; install a decorative fireplace and other elements. Christmas music and aromas of pine needles, citrus fruits, chocolate, etc. create a special atmosphere of the New Year. 
  • Take care of the appearance of the sellers. It is not necessary to dress them in carnival costumes. Simple accessories will perfectly match their everyday working uniform.   • You should also pay attention to the festive packaging of goods. A good solution is to purchase special gift bags that will save your customers from the need to search for the packaging of the purchased goods. In addition, the loyalty of customers to you as a caring seller will increase.
