Holidays in Ukraine are directly related to the trade sector and its employees, as they serve as a great occasion to increase consumer demand.
In this article, we will look at strategies and examples of how to maximize sales and draw customers' attention to the brand and its products during various holidays.
Ukrainian holidays that may be of interest to entrepreneurs
Trade Workers' Day is celebrated on July 30, a professional holiday for all those involved in the trade sector.
Although this holiday is more internal and is about congratulations from salespeople and business owners, stores can offer special discounts for customers, organize themed events, and decorate the store to attract customers' attention.

Black Friday is a western retail holiday that has taken root in Ukraine. It is celebrated in the United States after Thanksgiving, which falls on the last Friday of November. Retailers offer big discounts in stores, develop attractive promotional offers, launch advertising campaigns on many online platforms, and decorate stores in appropriate colors.
Although sales peak at the end of November, retailers organize sales a few weeks earlier, at least from November 20 to 30, to meet consumer demand.

Christmas and New Year are seasonal holidays that are peak times for trade, because it is during the New Year and Christmas period that sellers are ready to give the maximum discounts on goods for the whole year, and buyers are ready to shell out most of their annual financial reserves. Obviously, this is a hot time for trading.
Gifts and souvenirs, holiday decorations and New Year and Christmas decor, food for the festive table, children's products, cosmetics, electronics, clothing and accessories, household goods, and generally anything that can be useful and attractive to the consumer are best sold in winter.

Valentine's Day (February 14) is another lucrative day for merchants, especially those selling flowers, jewelry, gifts, and handmade goods.
On Valentine's Day, your customers can be both men and women. It is important to keep in mind that men usually tend to choose more expensive gifts. Therefore, when planning your assortment, offer women affordable and original small souvenirs, and men more luxurious and meaningful options.
For example, for women, it can be handmade sets, decorative candles, small photo frames, men's souvenirs or original bookmarks. For men, prepare luxury perfumes, stylish accessories (leather wallets, belts, bags, expensive underwear), jewelry, or certificates for experiences such as master classes or weekend tours.

March 8 is International Women's Day, which also contributes to a surge in retail sales. Sellers of flowers, gifts, cosmetics, perfumes, lingerie, home products, textiles, jewelry, and accessories are the winners.
Girls are also congratulated on March 8, so if you are a children's clothing or baby products store, make sure you have a good assortment in advance.
Buyers choose things for a gift depending on the preferences of a woman or a girl: kitchen utensils, goods for creativity, household, interior, handmade products, sports goods, and intangible gifts.

Easter is not only a religious holiday, but also a time when people gather with their families and greet each other.
So, during this period, sales of Easter cakes, Easter decor, souvenirs, picnic items, and outdoor activities naturally increase. If your store space allows, organize Easter egg making workshops.

Mother's Day (the second Sunday in May) is a Ukrainian holiday designed to celebrate all mothers and grandmothers. Therefore, sellers should focus on women's themes: flowers, books, clothes, accessories, cosmetics, and gifts with a soul.
It is also worth preparing the store's assortment several weeks in advance to ensure that it is in sufficient quantity. You can already hold promotions and prize draws in your online store a week in advance, plan mass Viber, SMS, and e-mail campaigns with interesting offers for customers.
Halloween (October 31-November 1) — although this holiday is not traditional for Ukraine, it is gaining popularity and stimulating sales of costumes, decorations, candy, and themed goods.
To avoid wondering what to sell for the holidays, use Google Trends, a service that studies consumer demand and trends around the world, including in the retail world. For a better understanding of what people are looking for and what queries they type in Google most often, use Answer public.
The Day of the Defender of Ukraine (October 1, new style) is an important holiday for our country, when people congratulate their loved ones and friends who are defending our country.
During this period, sales of military-themed goods, men's gifts (souvenirs, accessories, clothing for men), symbolic attributes and national symbols may increase. Sellers should plan holiday promotions for this period to attract more attention from customers and increase sales.
The school season (late August — early September) is an unofficial holiday in Ukraine, which is no less important for trade, namely for sellers of school supplies, clothing, shoes, books and educational literature.
Prepare goods for schoolchildren a month before the peak dates — August 30-31 — to allow parents to shop for school without rushing. And you will have a stress-free time selling before September 1.

Shoreside is a traditional Slavic holiday that stimulates sales of food, confectionery and flour products: pancakes and related products for cooking and enjoying them.
Shoreside can be a good occasion for Ukrainian craft producers who make rare and organic products: healthy sweets, nuts and pastes, natural honey, and original desserts. Or salty foods that will perfectly complement the festive table and can serve as a filling for pancakes: a variety of cheeses according to original, homemade recipes, smoked meat products, etc.
Ukraine's Independence Day (August 24). On this day, sales of national symbols, clothing in the colors of the national flag, as well as various souvenirs and handmade products may increase. As August 24 is a day off, people will be more willing to shop, spending money more easily than on a normal day.

St. Mikołaj Day (6th of June) — is a fairly popular holiday in Ukraine, which can be equated to Christmas in terms of sales. At this time, it is customary to give gifts to children, and the demand for toys, books, clothes and other goods for children is growing. As practice shows, the attention of consumers is also drawn to products from the adult segment, as gifts are often bought for wives, husbands, sisters, brothers, grandparents.
International Children's Day (June 1)— is another reason for active sales of children's goods, toys and entertainment services.

Teacher's Day (the first Sunday in October) is a special day to celebrate education workers: teachers, lecturers, and educators. As a rule, people start looking for gifts a week before the holiday, so you need to prepare your store and its assortment at least 2 weeks in advance.
Sellers of souvenirs, flowers, original gifts, as well as haberdashery goods, cosmetics and spa products, luxury food and drinks, handmade products, art supplies, etc., make the biggest profit from the holiday.

Father's Day (June 16) is a holiday that has been celebrated in Ukraine since 2019. Father's Day originated as a sign of respect and love, a tribute that Sonora Smart, a woman from Spokane, Washington, expressed to her father in 1909.
In the culture of the Western world, this holiday is symbolized by roses, which are attached to clothes near the heart on this day. A red rose reflects that the father is alive, while a white rose symbolizes that the father is no longer alive.
Although Father's Day is not widely celebrated in Ukraine, you can help popularize it yourself. Prepare the products you plan to sell for the holiday: let it be men's accessories, appliances, men's clothing, some decorative items, household items, and even construction products.
Sale season (winter and summer). This period is important for retailers. After all, regardless of the holiday, sellers organize seasonal sales of unsold goods to get rid of stock, on the one hand, and to stimulate sales, on the other. At this time, they traditionally offer significant discounts and special offers for certain groups of goods, and plan promotions on social media and paid sales channels.
