What are the differences between American and Ukrainian entrepreneurs?

Entrepreneurs who frequently visit the United States or do business with American business partners know that everything is organized a little differently there. Some principles will be useful for domestic businessmen to adopt. They will be discussed in this article.

Dress without pathos, with taste

Unlike most Ukrainian businessmen, Americans have a different attitude to appearance. The seeming severity of a suit and an expensive watch are not a symbol of prosperity - simplicity and directness of the image are valued here. Too pretentious and expensive an outfit is not good for an entrepreneur. Ukrainian entrepreneurs believe that their status obliges them to wear a Brioni tie and expensive Rolexes. But this is not the case: pretentiousness is not beneficial, but a modest but stylish appearance is highly valued by others.

Politeness in communication

Rejecting a potential business partner is a challenge for an American entrepreneur. Most often, they don't tell the truth to your face: an American can give an honest answer, especially in a rude manner, only to someone with whom they are in close contact. They usually call bad ideas "not bad" - a beginner may believe this, but an experienced interlocutor understands what lies behind it. By the way, books that teach you how to say "no" to business partners and colleagues are popular among Americans. Especially since there are dozens of examples of US entrepreneurs ruining their businesses because they were unable to say no.
Unfortunately, our entrepreneurs like to hold their noses high and remind everyone they meet of their status. This creates a negative image: no one likes rude and angry people.

Rational use of working and free time

Americans hate idle existence - every day is filled with meaning and tasks that start in the morning. It is important to note that the concept of a "day off" for an American entrepreneur does not mean that he will lie on the couch in front of the TV all day. If they think of a way to improve their business, they will definitely implement their idea. And overtime is commonplace for people who run their own businesses or hold important positions.
The only way to combine business and personal life is to plan your day properly. That's why business lunches at 8 a.m. and working late are commonplace.

Getting rid of any addictions

Every American entrepreneur tries to minimize dependence on external conditions. Business partners, suppliers, and technology - the fewer factors that affect business performance, the better. For example, Tesla was dependent on one supplier who was periodically late with deliveries. As a result, the corporation started producing them on its own by buying out the company. Of course, small companies don't have this option, but they strive to achieve the same effect on a local scale.

Adequate division of labor

Any American company tends to choose a certain range of actions and responsibilities for its employees. Each employee knows what they are supposed to do and completes their tasks on time. Even small tasks are assigned to a specific person. Our companies definitely need to adapt this strategy.

Each team member has their own goals and objectives

It's easier to work when you know what you need to do and when the task should be completed. In America, it is customary to make a list of goals for the short term: this way, an employee always knows what to do and does not work from task to task.

With this approach, work is faster and more productive, and senior managers constantly remind their subordinates of the company's global goals. Thanks to this methodology, everyone always knows what to do and what they are working for. This is a great tactic that we are still far from perfecting.
Of course, it will not be possible to adapt the American model overnight. But for domestic business, the American model is a kind of "big brother" with extensive experience and skills. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to how colleagues from the United States do business and borrowing some knowledge from them.
