Accounting and sale of piece goods with a measure — is an additional Torgsoft option that keeps double accounting for each unit of goods: in pieces and in a unit of measure (weight, length, volume, or carats), and calculates the price precisely by the measure. It is needed when the price depends not on the piece, but on grams of metal, meters of fabric, or carats of a stone. As a result, you see stock balances both in quantity and in measure, while the price is calculated automatically.
The option is suitable for businesses where each unit has its own physical characteristic that determines its value: jewelry stores, fabric and textile stores, trade in precious metals and stones, as well as sales of linear and wound goods. It solves the typical pain of such accounting — when goods are stored in stock by pieces, but are sold and valued by measure, and this has to be calculated manually or in Excel.
With the option, you keep goods in two dimensions without manual recalculations: enter the measure upon receipt, sell in the required unit through the measure calculator, print the measure on the label, and receive reports with the balance in pieces and in the reference unit of measurement.
Sell goods by the piece, and calculate the price by their measure
Double accounting in pieces and in measure with automatic price calculation per gram, meter, or carat.

What accounting for goods with a measure is
This is accounting in which a unit of goods is counted simultaneously in two dimensions: as a piece and as a measure. A ring weighs 3.2 grams, a piece of fabric is 2.5 meters long, a hose coil contains a certain number of meters. The product is physically one unit, but its value is determined by the measure — a gram of metal, a meter of fabric, a carat of stone. Torgsoft stores both values and calculates the final price by the measure, while reports show the balance both in quantity and in total measure.
Basic concepts
Measure
The physical characteristic of a unit of goods — weight, length, volume, or carats.
Unit of measurement
What the measure is measured in: gram, meter, carat, liter.
Reference unit of measurement
The base unit to which all others are converted, for example, kilogram.
Conversion factor
The ratio of a unit to the reference one: one gram equals 0.001 kilograms.
Total measure
The total measure of the balance in the reference unit, for example, the entire weight of products in stock.
Measure calculator
Converts quantity into measure and back during sale, calculates the price for the selected unit.
Who this option is for
Jewelry stores
Accounting by weight in grams and fineness, price per gram, automatic weighing on scales upon receipt.
Fabric and textile stores
Goods are stored in rolls, but sold in cuts by meters — the price is calculated per meter.
Precious metals and stones
Accounting in grams and carats, price per unit of measure taking into account the stone’s characteristics.
Linear and wound goods
Hose, cable, rope, chain: received as coils, sold by meters.
Who does not need it. If all your goods are accounted for only in pieces at a fixed price and the value does not depend on weight or length, the option will not be useful. For regular weighed goods at the checkout (vegetables, packaged goods), see the «Scale integration at the checkout» option, and for goods sold by length with simple recalculation — «Metric goods calculator».
When to enable it immediately
- The price of goods depends on their weight, length, volume, or carats.
- Goods are received in one unit (coil, roll) and sold in another (meters).
- You need to see the balance simultaneously in pieces and in the total measure in stock.
- You use jewelry scales and want to enter weight automatically.
What tasks the option solves
How it looks before and after
Before
Weight and length are calculated in a notebook or Excel, the price is derived manually, and stock shows only pieces. When selling a cut, the seller recalculates meters on a calculator, while no one knows the exact real balance of metal or fabric.
After
The measure is entered into the card upon receipt, the price is calculated automatically, and the measure calculator recalculates units during sale. Reports show the balance in pieces and in total measure, and the label shows the weight and price per unit.
How it works: 6 steps
Step 1. Create units of measurement. In the Product management → Unit of measurement menu, set the reference unit (for example, kilogram) and subordinate units with a conversion factor (gram = 0.001 kg).
Step 2. Enable measure for the product type. In the product type card (Product management → Product type), turn on the «Measure» switch and select the unit of measure, and in the «Unit of meas.» field specify what the goods are received in.
Step 3. Activate price entry per unit of measure. After this, the «Measure price» button appears during receipt, and manual entry of purchase and selling prices is blocked.
Step 4. Receive goods with a measure. Specify the quantity (coils, products) and the measure (meters in a coil, grams in a product). With connected scales, the weight goes into the receipt automatically — enable Settings → Parameters → Scales → «Use scales to determine product weight in receipt».
Step 5. Calculate the price through «Measure price». In the «Measure and cost entry» window, automatic recalculation works: change the measure — the price is recalculated, enter the price per unit of measure — the retail price of the product and markup are updated.
Step 6. Sell through the measure calculator. Enable Settings → Parameters → Documents → «Show measure calculator in sale». When adding such goods to a sale, the calculator opens, where you select the sale unit and quantity.

Important. When «Price entry per unit of measure» is enabled, purchase and selling prices are not edited manually. To change them, open the window again through the «Measure price» button.

Option capabilities
Scenarios by niche
Jewelry store
The product is placed on scales upon receipt, and the weight automatically goes into the card. The price is calculated per gram with regard to fineness, and the weight and price per gram are printed on the label. The report shows the total weight of metal in stock.
Fabric store
A roll is received in meters and sold in cuts. The measure calculator recalculates meters and calculates the amount for the selected length without a separate card for each cut.
Linear goods trade
A hose or cable arrives in coils of several meters each. During receipt, the number of coils and the meterage of one coil are specified, and goods are sold by meters through the measure calculator.
Example
The scenario is illustrative. A fabric store purchases a 40-meter roll of suit fabric. During receipt, the card records the quantity — one roll, and the measure — 40 meters. The price is set per meter, and the program calculates the total cost of the roll itself.
The buyer needs 2.5 meters. The seller opens the measure calculator in sale, selects sale in meters, enters 2.5 — and the program calculates the amount according to the price list and writes off the measure from the balance. In stock status, the roll balance is shown both in meters and in total measure. There are no manual recalculations on a calculator.
Which options and equipment it works with
- Metric goods calculator — for goods measured in meters but shipped by pieces (tiles, laminate, linoleum).
- Scale integration at the checkout — for weighed goods that are weighed directly during sale at the checkout.
- Packaging and labeling of weighed goods — for printing your own barcodes and receipts for packaged weighed goods.
- Production: accounting for materials and finished goods — if the product is not only sold, but also manufactured with raw material accounting.
- Axis A.R series jewelry scales — automatic transfer of weight into goods receipt.
- CAS PR-II scales — weighing products upon receipt.
Comprehensive automation. The option complements basic Torgsoft accounting: stock, sales, work with software cash registers, CRM, and reports. Together, you get a system where goods with a measure move through stock, are sold, and are analyzed without manual recalculations.

Frequently asked questions
What does the «Accounting and sale of piece goods with a measure» option provide
It keeps double accounting — in pieces and in measure — and calculates the price per unit of measure: gram, meter, carat. It is suitable when the value of goods depends on their weight or length.
Is this option only for jewelry stores
No. The option is broader: it works for fabric stores, trade in metals and stones, linear and wound goods — everywhere the price is calculated by measure.
Can goods be sold in one unit and received in another
Yes. Goods arrive, for example, in coils and are sold by meters. The measure calculator converts quantity into measure and back directly in sale.
How is product weight entered
Manually in the product card or automatically from Axis A.R series and CAS PR-II scales upon receipt, if the corresponding setting is enabled in scale parameters.
What is a reference unit of measurement
It is the base unit to which all others are converted through a conversion factor. For example, the reference unit is kilogram, and gram has a factor of 0.001.
Is the total weight of goods in stock visible
Yes. Stock status and analyses have a «Total measure» column that shows the balance in the reference unit of measurement — for example, the total weight of products.
Can the measure be printed on the label
Yes. In label print settings, you can output the measure and unit of measure so that the buyer sees the weight and price per unit.
Why can the price not be changed manually
When price entry per unit of measure is enabled, purchase and selling prices are formed through the calculator. To change them, open the window with the «Measure price» button.
From which version is the option available
The option is available from Torgsoft version 7.9.0 (DB 386) and later.
How many options need to be purchased
The option is purchased for each workstation for standalone versions, or one per local network, or one per terminal license server.
Can it be tested first
