What is a Product Type?

A product type is a collection of goods from a certain group, united by a common name and purpose. Examples of specific product types include televisions, household appliances, mobile phones, clothing, shoes, etc.

Why is it important to create product types correctly?

A correctly created structure of product types is necessary for the subsequent creation of product models, synchronization sections, and integration of goods into the online store.

Steps to create product types

For clarity in describing the process, let's use the product name Torgsoft Product 10 Lite as an example.

It is recommended to create product types in 3-4 categories: general name, brand name, product model name, and product versions. This is just a recommendation, and if you have products with various functionalities, it is advisable not to exceed 6 categories, as it may be difficult to navigate through the warehouse structure and the online store categories in the future.

To choose the right general name for the product type, ensure that it is suitable for the subordinate product types. For example, if you have a product named Torgsoft Product 10 Lite, a suitable general name could be Trade Equipment. The next subordinate category would be the manufacturer's brand, Torgsoft, then the product model, Product, and finally, 10 and Lite should be combined into one product type, such as 10 Lite, 10 Pro, 10 Max. This way, you can easily manipulate the product naming structure. Depending on how you form the product name, you can better prepare Product Models. Here is a link to the article:
