Self-Checkout in Torgsoft

Self-Checkout in Torgsoft — is a special operating mode in the Torgsoft Hybrid application that allows customers to scan and pay for goods with a bank card on their own. This tool was created to optimize store operations, speed up service, and improve the customer experience.

A store can open an additional checkout without hiring a new cashier and without purchasing expensive equipment. In most cases, a computer or monitor, a barcode scanner, and a bank terminal are enough.

Self-checkout

Why stores are switching to self-checkouts

Most retail outlets face one typical problem: during peak hours, a queue forms at the checkout → the cashier cannot keep up with serving customers → some customers leave the store.
For a business owner, this means:
lost sales
staff overload
the need to open one more checkout
But a new checkout means:
1
workstation
2
equipment
3
cashier salary
Self-checkout solves this problem.

Self-checkout (Self-checkout, SCO) — is a checkout mode in which the customer scans goods independently, sees the purchase amount, pays by bank card without cashier involvement, and receives a receipt.

A cashier or administrator steps in only when needed — for example, to confirm age when selling alcohol.
As a result, you have lower staff costs, shorter queues during peak hours, and optimized retail space.
Mode benefits

What a business owner gets

Implementing this functionality in your store solves several strategic and operational tasks at once:
checkout without a new cashier
Additional checkout without a new cashier
You can open another service point without hiring staff. The cashier controls the process, but most purchases go through without their involvement.
Faster customer service
Faster customer service
Customers scan goods themselves. This reduces queues and speeds up store operations.
Full control through the system
Full control through the system
Even if the customer uses the checkout independently, the business owner controls the process. The checkout records all operations, keeps fiscal records, and supports the sale of excisable goods.

SCO increases loyalty among customers who are used to modern technologies and prefer scanning and paying for goods on their own.
Feature overview

What Self-Checkout can do

The program functionality is designed with the needs of both customers and business owners in mind: convenience for the customer is combined with control and flexible settings for the store.

1. Adaptive and customizable interface

Adaptive interface

Support for different screens: the interface automatically adapts to different resolutions — from small monitors to 4K, and also supports both horizontal and vertical orientation.
Welcome screen: in standby mode, the checkout hides the working interface behind a splash screen. It can be customized: add a promotional image, the store logo, and a welcome text.
Flexible table and totals settings: the owner can define which columns to display on the screen, as well as manage the totals row or hide it completely.
Font control: the interface font size can be increased or decreased for maximum convenience on specific equipment.

2. Working with products and scanning

Working with products

Continuous focus: the cursor automatically returns to the barcode input field, so the customer does not need to use a mouse — scanning works from any area of the screen.
Manual entry: if the barcode is damaged, it can be entered manually using the virtual keyboard on the touchscreen.
Changing product quantity: the customer can adjust the quantity of regular products through a numeric form. Weighted products are also supported — up to three decimal places.
Removing a product: if the customer changes their mind, they can remove the product from the basket. If the last item is removed, the checkout automatically returns to the welcome screen.

3. Accounting for excisable goods and age verification (18+)

Accounting for excisable goods

Torgsoft paid special attention to the sale of excisable goods:

Excise stamp entry: when scanning an excisable product, a separate form appears for entering or scanning the excise stamp.
Managing the quantity of excisable goods: increasing the quantity is possible only by rescanning a new stamp. To decrease the quantity, a window opens where specific stamps can be removed from the receipt.
Checkout lock until age confirmation: when paying for an excisable or age-restricted product, the checkout is locked until age is confirmed. Payment can continue only after scanning the seller’s badge.
If the customer does not want to wait for the seller, they can remove the excisable product from the receipt and pay for the rest of the basket independently.

4. Loyalty programs

Loyalty programs

Customer cards: after scanning a discount card, the customer’s name appears on the screen, and the discount is automatically calculated and applied to the products in the basket.
Bonus cards: when a bonus card is scanned, only the customer’s name is displayed on the screen without the discount percentage.

5. Payment and printing of the fiscal receipt

Printing the fiscal receipt

One-click payment: there is one large payment button on the screen. After pressing it, the system automatically connects to the bank terminal and processes the payment.
Fiscalization: the checkout is fully integrated with software PRRO from Torgsoft. After successful payment through the terminal, a fiscal receipt is automatically printed.

During the payment process and receipt printing, a special waiting window appears on the screen so that the customer does not interrupt the operation. In the settings, you can choose in advance a specific settlement account to which funds from this checkout will be credited.

6. Security and access rights (Seller mode)

Security and access rights

An ordinary customer has limited rights. Full control over the checkout remains with store staff:

Access to settings: the menu where you can change the settlement account, fonts, columns, or image opens only after scanning the seller’s badge.
Hiding control buttons: the owner can hide the “Remove product” and “Change quantity” buttons from customers. They will appear only after scanning the seller’s badge.
Reset and close: only the seller, through the protected menu, can perform a full forced reset of the current sale or close the self-checkout application.
Self-checkout in Torgsoft is a thoroughly thought-out tool that makes the purchasing process autonomous while maintaining full financial control and security for the business owner.
