Storage location for goods in the warehouse

The «Storage Location» function in the Torgsoft software is designed for entrepreneurs who aim to streamline warehouse processes. It enables the creation and accounting of storage locations for goods, significantly simplifying search, movement, and inventory management. This is especially useful for businesses with a large product assortment, such as construction stores or warehouses with a wide range of items.

The main purpose of the «Storage Location» function

The function is created to save time for warehouse employees. It helps to:

  • quickly find the required goods by linking them to a specific storage location (e.g., shelf or rack);
  • optimize internal warehouse logistics;
  • avoid confusion in large inventory stocks.

How does the «Storage Location» function work?

The function supports two modes:

  1. Multiple storage locations for one item (recommended). This allows a single item to be stored on different shelves, racks, or even in different warehouse zones.
  2. One storage location per item. A simple option where each item has only one designated location.

«Multiple storage locations» mode

1. Creating storage locations
You can create racks, shelves, zones, and also automatically generate barcodes for each storage location. For example, for a rack with 3 shelves in 5 rows, you can create 15 storage locations:
Rack #2 shelf_1 row_A, Rack #2 shelf_1 row_B, Rack #2 shelf_3 row_E, etc.

2. Linking goods to storage locations
You can link goods to a permanent storage location or add a temporary one, for instance, during transfers or order fulfillment.

For quick linking, you can:

  • select goods from the warehouse;
  • scan the item's barcode;
  • use the storage location directory.

3. Using the function in operations
On the sales (realization) form, the seller can quickly check the storage location of goods by clicking the «Additional Actions» button. This significantly speeds up the order fulfillment process.

«One storage location» mode

This option is suitable for small warehouses with simpler structures. The storage location is specified only in the item's card, without the ability to add multiple locations or generate barcodes.

Key benefits of the «Storage Location» function

  1. Time-saving. Warehouse staff can quickly find goods thanks to clear storage location systematization.
  2. Flexibility. You can create both permanent and temporary storage locations, considering the warehouse's specific needs.
  3. Automation. Generating barcodes for storage locations simplifies search and accounting.
  4. Transparency. The software displays detailed information about the location, storage terms, temporary locations, and documents linked to the item.
  5. Integration with other processes. The function is available in the item card, order documents, sales, internal transfers, and other modes.

Additional capabilities of the «Storage Location» function

  • For warehouse staff: Information about storage locations can be printed on receipts or invoices, which is convenient during goods issuance.
  • For analytics: You can view a list of items with expired storage terms.
  • Quick access: The function can be accessed using a keyboard shortcut (e.g., ALT + G).

Application example

A construction store with a large warehouse
The store has items stored on different racks. For example, cement may be on Rack #1 (shelves 2, 3), and paints — on Rack #3. The seller receives an order, finds the goods through the software, sees its storage location (Rack #1 shelf_2), and quickly provides it to the customer.

Who will benefit from the «Storage Location» function?

  • Entrepreneurs with medium and large warehouses.
  • Stores with a wide assortment of goods.
  • Warehouses with a high turnover rate of goods.
  • Businesses aiming to enhance warehouse efficiency.

The «Storage Location» function helps make warehouse processes simpler, faster, and more understandable. With its help, you can significantly improve customer service and optimize inventory operations.
