Default markup by product groups: how to set it up so new items automatically have retail and wholesale prices

Default markup settings in Torgsoft are configured through the «Product Type» directory. This helps automate pricing: when you add a new product to a goods receipt document, the program automatically applies the required markup percentage (retail and wholesale) and calculates the selling price as soon as you enter the purchase price.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set it up:

1. Settings in the «Product Type» directory

The main markup parameters are set in the branches of the product classifier.

1. Go to the menu item Merchandising — Product Type.

2. Select the required product group (branch) or create a new one (the «Add» or «Add Subordinate» button).

3. Click the Edit button (pencil icon) to open the product type card.

4. Fill in the relevant markup fields:

•    Markup (%): enter the markup percentage for the retail price. This value will be used by default for all new products of this type.

•    Wholesale markup (%): enter the markup percentage for the wholesale price.

•    Discount (%): here you can specify a default product discount if needed.

5. Click Save (or Save for all if you want to apply these settings to subordinate subgroups of this product type as well).

2. Advanced markups (depending on the purchase price)

If you need the markup to change depending on the product cost (for example, 50% for low-cost products and 20% for high-cost ones), use the «Markup Group» function:

1. In the «Product Type» card, enable the Markup based on product price checkbox.

2. Instead of fixed fields, the Markup Group field will appear. Click the directory button next to it.

3. Create a new group and configure the ranges:

•    Price from / Price to: the purchase price range.

•    Retail markup / Wholesale markup: the percentage for this range.

4. Save and select this group for the product type.

3. How it works when receiving goods

When you create a Goods Receipt and add a new product:

1. You select the «Product Type» (for example, «Men's Jeans»).

2. The value from the Markup (%) field that you configured earlier is automatically pulled into the product card.

3. You only need to enter the Purchase Price.

4. The program will automatically calculate the Retail Price (Purchase Price + Markup). If wholesale markup is configured, the wholesale price will also be calculated.

4. Settings for product import (Excel)

If you upload new products via Excel:

• In the import settings, in the Markup generation method field, select: Product — Product Type — Import markup.

• In this case, the markup for new products will be taken specifically from the «Product Type» settings that you configured in step 1.

Additional useful settings

• Rounding. In the «Product Type» card, you can also configure rounding (for example, to 1 UAH, to 50 kopecks, etc.). This helps avoid prices like 199.53 UAH by automatically converting them to 200.00 UAH.

• Automatic update. In the menu Settings — Parameters — Product, there is an option Automatically overwrite product type markup upon receipt. If enabled, when you manually change the markup in the goods receipt document, the program will automatically update the default markup for this entire product type in the directory.
