How do I check if the barcode scanner works?

  1. Connect the barcode scanner to your computer.

  2. Open an application that allows you to write text, such as Notepad.

  3. Make sure that the scanner is working properly — scanning the type of barcode you want, recognizing all the characters.

  4. Check that the scanner reads damaged barcodes.

Why isn't the barcode scanner working?

If your scanner is not reading a barcode, there are several ways to troubleshoot the problem:

  • Check that it's plugged into a USB port. Try switching it to a different USB.

  • Most simple scanners don't need a driver. But if you have an expensive multifunction device, make sure the drivers are installed.

  • Check the barcode to make sure it is clean and undamaged. If it has spots or scratches on it, get another item.

  • Lighting: If it is too dark or too bright, the scanner may not read the barcode.

  • Orientation: The barcode must be in front of the scanner. Some scanners require the barcode to be held at a certain angle or directly below the scanner.

  • Try another scanner to see if it can read the barcode.

  • If you bought your scanner from Torgsoft — contact Technical Support, they will help you pinpoint the cause and, if possible, remotely help fix the problem.
