Vzdialená práca v Torgsoft cez terminálovú licenciu a RDP - ako ju organizovať

Remote work in Torgsoft via Terminal license and RDP

Working “from anywhere” in Torgsoft is based on using a Terminal license and RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). This allows you to connect to a single database from home, another city, or directly from the store using the internet.

1. Server: the main computer with the database

For remote access, the database must be physically hosted on a server that runs 24/7 and has internet access. There are two options:

  • Your own server: you purchase a powerful computer that acts as the server.

    • OS requirements. You need a server operating system (for example, Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022) or Windows editions that allow RDP connections (Professional/Enterprise).

    • Network requirements. A static external IP address on the server side is critical. Without it, you won’t be able to connect from outside.

    • Configuration. You must set up port forwarding on the router (usually port 3389, or a different port for security) and open it in the Windows firewall.

  • Server rental (cloud): you rent resources in a data center. In this case, you get a preconfigured access, a static address, and you don’t have to worry about hardware.

2. Connecting the client workstation

An employee (cashier, owner, accountant) connects to the server via a remote access app. The client computer doesn’t need high performance because all processing happens on the server.

  • On Windows, use the built-in “Remote Desktop Connection” (mstsc.exe).

    • In the “Computer” field, enter the server IP address and port (for example, 123.456.78.90:3389).

    • In settings, you can enable redirection of local resources (drives, printers) to the server.

  • On macOS, download the “Microsoft Remote Desktop” app from the App Store. The setup is similar: specify the “PC name” (IP:Port) and the user credentials.

3. Retail hardware in remote mode

This is the most challenging part. When the software runs on the server, while the scanner and terminal are on your desk in the store, you must configure data transfer correctly.

Payment terminals:

  • Ethernet connection (recommended). The terminal connects to the router by cable or via Wi-Fi. This is the most reliable option for RDP.

    • You should закрепить the terminal’s internal IP address in the router settings (DHCP Reservation).

    • You need to set up “port forwarding” (for example, 2000) on the store router so the server can “see” the terminal.

    • Supported protocols for this setup: JSON (WebSocket), BPOS (Ethernet).

  • USB connection (not recommended): you can redirect COM ports via RDP, but it often works нестабільно and can cause errors when the connection drops.

Receipt printers and label printers:

  • When using RDP, printer drivers must be installed on both the local computer and the server. In the RDP client settings, enable the “Printers” checkbox (Printers).

  • For stability, VPN tunnels or the LPD service are sometimes used so the server prints directly to the printer’s IP address in the store, bypassing standard driver redirection that can “drop”.

Scales:

  • They connect via COM port redirection in the RDP client settings, or via virtual ports if the scales have an Ethernet interface.

4. Mobility via smartphone

If you don’t need full functionality (for example, only to receive or sell goods, view reports, check stock availability, or take photos), you don’t have to use RDP.

  • The Torgsoft mobile app is installed on Android/iOS.

  • It works directly with the database.

  • It requires opening the app server port (usually 6001) on your server and having a static IP.

5. Backup plan: Hybrid mode

Hybrid mode

Since remote work depends entirely on the internet, for POS work it is recommended to use the “Torgsoft Hybrid” option.

  • How it works: a local version is installed on the POS computer and syncs with the server. If the internet goes down, the POS continues to operate offline. As soon as the connection is restored, the data is automatically sent to the server.

What do you need to prepare?

  1. Server. Your own with a static IP and Windows Server, or a rented one.

  2. License “Torgsoft Terminal”.

  3. In-store network. A router that supports port configuration (Port Forwarding) for proper operation of payment terminals.

  4. Specialist for the initial setup of RDP, ports, and security (or you can order this service from Torgsoft technical support).
