To safely transfer the database and the Torgsoft program to a new computer, you need to follow a clear algorithm that includes preparing data on the old device, installing the software on the new one, and then restoring the information.

1. Steps on the old computer

First of all, make sure that no user is working with the program.

  • Create a database archive. In the program, go to File — Database — Save database. Choose a save path (by default, this is the C:\Torgsoft Log folder) and save the file.

  • Stop Windows services: To copy files correctly, you need to stop the services related to the program. Using the Control Panel or the services.msc command, find and stop the following services:

    • SQL Server (Torgsoft);

    • TorgsoftLicenceService;

    • TorgsoftService.

  • Copy the program files. Go to the program root folder (by default C:\Torgsoft) and copy or archive the Program, Photo, and Database folders to an external drive (flash drive). Also be sure to copy the database archive file (.mir) created in the first step.

2. Steps on the new computer

  • Install the program. Download the installer from the official website torgsoft.ua and install the program. After installation, run it once so it creates the required service folders, including the «Torgsoft Log».

  • Update the version. It is important that the program version on the new computer matches the version on the old one. If they differ, download and install the appropriate update package.

  • Transfer the data:

    1. Copy the database archive file to the C:\Torgsoft Log folder on the new PC.
    2. Copy the Program, Photo and Database folders from the removable drive to the C:\Torgsoft folder on the new PC.
    3. Important: When replacing files in the Program folder, it is recommended not to replace the AdminServer.ini and ADConnectionDefs.ini files, as they contain connection settings specific to the current computer.

3. Restore and activate

  • Load the database. On the new PC, go to File — Database — Load database, select the transferred archive file, and wait until the data update is complete.

  • Re-register the license. Since the license is tied to the computer hardware, you need to contact Torgsoft technical support to deactivate the old license and obtain a new one for the new device.

  • Recreate users. Apart from the «Owner», other users must be created again and new desktop shortcuts generated for them.

4. Configure additional features and hardware

After transferring the database, you need to configure again:

Which Windows services must be stopped before archiving the program folders?

Before archiving program folders (such as Program, Photo and Database) for their subsequent safe copying, you need to stop the following Windows services:

  1. SQL Server (Torgsoft) — the name of this service may differ slightly depending on the installed version, for example, SQL Server (SQL2008).

  2. TorgsoftLicenceService.

  3. TorgsoftService.

Why is this important? Stopping these services is necessary to unlock the program files. If the services remain active, they may use the files in real time, which will prevent correct archiving or copying.

Also, before stopping the services, make sure that the program is closed for all users and no one is currently working with it.

To manage services, you can use the standard Windows «Services» tool (services.msc) or PowerShell run as administrator.

Which folders exactly need to be copied to transfer photos and the database?

To fully transfer information (products, customer database, and images) to a new computer, you need to copy three main folders, which are usually located in the program root directory (by default, C:\Torgsoft).

Here is the list of these folders and their purpose:

  • Program — contains all files required for the program to run, including print templates, settings, and keys.

  • Photo — this folder stores product photos entered in the program. If you do not use photos in your accounting, you may skip archiving this folder.

  • Database — contains the database working files (in .mdf and .ldf formats). Although Torgsoft has a function to restore the database from a separate archive file (created via the «Archiving» menu), copying this folder is an important additional backup.

Important notes when copying:

  1. Stopping services. Before copying or archiving these folders, you must stop the Windows services (SQL Server, TorgsoftLicenceService, TorgsoftService), otherwise the files may be locked by the system and will not be copied correctly.

  2. Excluded files. When you transfer the contents of the Program folder to a new computer, the sources recommend not to replace two specific files: AdminServer.ini and ADConnectionDefs.ini. They contain server connection parameters that are relevant to the new installation.

  3. Data merging. When pasting the copied folders on the new PC, it is better to choose the option «skip files with the same names» (or merge) so you do not lose templates or keys created by the new installation.
