In retail and wholesale trade, flexible price management and personalized offers are key to customer retention. For retail customers, the most effective system is one that encourages regular purchases — the higher the total purchase amount, the higher the discount percentage. 

Wholesale partners, distributors, or regional representatives need completely different terms: they already buy at the lowest wholesale price, but often need additional individual preferences for products of a specific brand to stimulate sales. 

Since these two logics have different use scenarios, entrepreneurs often ask specialists the following questions: «How do I correctly configure the cumulative policy so that the purchase amount is calculated correctly and the discount increases automatically?», «How can I make sure a retail customer receives a discount from the very first purchase?», «How do I give a wholesale customer an additional discount only on products from a specific manufacturer?» and «Which discount will apply if a product is covered by a general promotion and individual wholesale terms at the same time?». 

This scenario guide clearly separates the configuration of cumulative and wholesale discount systems and gives comprehensive answers to these practical questions.

This mode is designed for long-term motivation of retail customers. The cumulative policy is formed as a table where a threshold (purchase amount) and the corresponding discount percentage are specified. The discount is applied automatically after the customer reaches this threshold.

Main operating and configuration principles:

  • Creating transition thresholds. Configuration is performed in the «Marketing» — «Discount Policy» menu on the «Cumulative» tab. You can create several thresholds by consistently specifying the amount and transition percentage, for example: from UAH 1,000 — 1%, from UAH 5,000 — 5%, and so on.

  • Managing the accumulation period. In the «Settings» — «Parameters» — «Discounts» menu, you can choose the system behavior in detail. The available options are: accumulation without time limits, accumulation for a specified period (the amount must be accumulated within a certain number of days), or full reset of the accumulated amount at the end of the specified period.

Answers to practical questions:

  • How can I make sure a customer receives a discount from the very first purchase?

By default, the program will start applying the discount only from the second purchase, because the money from the first purchase must first be included in the discount calculation amount. For the discount to apply immediately, when generating discount cards or directly in the customer card, you must specify the «Initial amount for discount calculation» and the corresponding «Discount %» based on your discount policy.

  • Why does the total amount of all customer purchases not match the amount used to calculate the discount?

The discount calculation amount is formed according to a special algorithm, not simply as the total proceeds. It includes the amount of all sales, but product returns, amounts of bonuses used for payment, and penalties for the absence of purchases are systematically deducted from it. In addition, you can configure promotional or discounted products, as well as products with a manual discount, so that they are not included in the customer’s accumulation calculation at all.

  • What should I do if a customer’s accumulated discount disappears when changing the discount card type?

This happens when the customer moves to a new card type (for example, from Standard to VIP), and the new type has no transition threshold that matches the amount they have already accumulated. As a result, the program resets the discount percentage. To avoid this, make sure that the first threshold in the higher-level card is the same as the last threshold in the previous type.

  • How can I speed up a customer’s transition to the maximum discount?

For this, you can use «Additional conditions for the cumulative discount policy». For example, you can configure the system so that when a customer buys a certain expensive product (a stroller or a TV), they are instantly moved to the next discount percentage, regardless of the amount they had previously accumulated.

The wholesale price in Torgsoft is considered the lowest base price for wholesale partners by default, and the standard program logic does not provide for additional discounts on it. However, when working with dealers or regional representatives, there is often a need to stimulate sales of specific brands (for example, if products of a certain manufacturer sell better in one region, the head office can grant a local manager an additional discount specifically on this brand).

Main operating and configuration principles:

  • The mode is configured in the «Marketing» — «Wholesale Discounts on Manufacturer» menu.

  • You select the required wholesale customer, and the program generates a list of all manufacturers available in your database.

  • For the selected manufacturer, the individual percentage of the additional discount is specified in the «Discount, %» column.

  • The changes made are applied by clicking the «Update» button.

Answers to practical questions:

  • When does this discount apply and how is it displayed?

This mechanism works exclusively when shipping goods to wholesale customers at wholesale prices. After adding a product from the brand for which an individual discount is configured to the sales transaction, the discount is calculated automatically.

 Important: in the receipt or delivery note (in the «Discount type» column), it will be identified as a «Promotional discount».

  • What happens when a customer has a wholesale discount but buys products from another brand?

The individual discount will apply only to products of the manufacturer for which it was strictly configured. All other products will be shipped at the regular wholesale price without additional discounts.

Interaction of discounts: priorities and conflicts

Combining cumulative logics, promotions, and individual wholesale terms requires a clear understanding of how the program resolves conflicts during sales.

  • What happens if a product is already covered by a general promotion, and the wholesale customer also has an individual wholesale discount on this manufacturer?

If the promotion is configured so that it applies to wholesale sales (the «Apply discounts to wholesale sales» setting is enabled), the program will compare the terms and apply the discount that is more beneficial (larger) for the customer. For example, if the promotional discount is 15% and the individual wholesale discount on the manufacturer is 5%, the 15% discount will be applied.

  • How do I manage priorities of different discount systems?

Torgsoft has a special «Discount priority» table, which is located in the «Marketing» — «Promotions» menu. By default, a manual product discount has the highest priority (level 0), while all other automatic discounts, including the customer discount, birthday discount, one-time discount, and promotions, have level 1. The individual wholesale discount on a manufacturer is also integrated into this competitive system. It works within the established priorities: it wins over all discounts with a lower priority, and if the priorities are equal, the discount with the highest percentage automatically wins. You can change these priorities yourself using the up and down buttons in the directory, adapting the sales logic to the individual strategy of your business.
