Choose an adult model after preparing the specific items for the shoot. Check the sample size, arrange a fitting and take test shots. Assess whether the fit, length and clothing details are visible. Alongside the photos, state the model’s height and the size of the garment shown.
Agree on the brief, budget and acceptance criteria before the main shoot. If no model is available, you can photograph the clothing on a mannequin. For the chosen approach, keep requirements for color accuracy, product visibility and a complete set of shots.
Prepare the samples before selecting a model
Make a product list. Record the SKU, color and actual size of each sample. Mark which color, size or style options need to be photographed separately. Make sure these items are ready for fitting.
Use this selection process:
- Measure the garments. Determine which body measurements are needed to make an initial comparison with these samples.
- Arrange a fitting. Check the shoulders, length, sleeves and fit in the areas that matter for the specific style.
- Ask the model to show the clothing from the front, side and back. Check that the arms and body position do not cover important details.
- Record the model’s height and the size of each garment they will wear. Give these details to the person responsible for product descriptions.
Choose the right size and prepare the fit before taking a shot. If you adjust the clothing for the shoot, compare the result with the garment’s actual fit. Reject an option where adjustments hide a mismatch in the sample. Check the size match for a mannequin as well.
Prepare one shared brief for the model and photographer
Give everyone one brief—a short written assignment. List the products, required shots, deadline for delivering the results and the person responsible for acceptance. Agree on the format, image dimensions and number of versions for the specific publication placements.
| What to include in the brief | What to check |
|---|---|
| SKU, color and sample size | The planned product option is shown in the shot |
| Front, back and side views | The full agreed set of angles is included |
| Separate detail shots | The required trim, pattern and material are visible |
| Main photo | The whole product is shown |
| File format, dimensions and quantity | The result matches the brief |
For a dress whose fit may vary, add bust, waist and length measurements to the description. For a jacket or coat, describe the fit: fitted, loose or oversized. Check that the description matches the photos of the specific sample.
Review test shots before photographing the full list
Take test photos before the main shoot. Review detail sharpness, fit and color. If the result does not match the brief, adjust the model’s position, garment preparation or shoot settings. Repeat the test before moving on to the next products.
Represent the color, pattern, trim and material accurately. Use additional shots to show other angles and required details. Use a tripod to keep the camera steady: it can help prevent blurry photos.
Agree on the budget and deliverables
Write down the specific amounts for the model’s participation, photographer’s work, venue, garment preparation and photo editing. State what each amount covers. Agree separately on the costs and terms for any possible reshoot, the delivery deadline and the process for revisions to the files.
Illustrative example. A store plans to photograph four dresses. Each needs three angles and one detail shot: 4 × 4 = 16 finished photos. Illustrative costs: model — UAH 1,500, photographer — UAH 2,500, venue — UAH 800, editing — UAH 1,200. Total — UAH 6,000. All figures are illustrative and are not market rates. Before work begins, compare the estimate with the agreed 16 files and clarify how additional work will be paid.
Agree on the shoot and how the photos may be used
Part 1 of Article 307 of the Civil Code of Ukraine sets the general rule: photographing a person requires their consent. Part 1 of Article 308 provides that the person depicted must consent to public display, reproduction and distribution of photographs.
There is an exception for paid posing. Under Part 2 of Article 308, when a person posed for the author for payment, these uses are allowed without their consent. However, the person may demand that they stop if they compensate the author or another person for the corresponding losses.
Before the shoot, agree in writing with the model on their participation, payment and planned channels of use: product pages, social media and advertising. Specify the term and any agreed restrictions. Agree separately with the photographer on use of the work. Consult a lawyer about applying the paid-posing exception to your arrangements.
Check samples and photos in Torgsoft
Before the fitting, find out where the required sample size is available. In Torgsoft, the option «Наявність розмірів моделі» (model size availability) lets you check which product sizes are available at different warehouses. Use the results to make a list of items to prepare. Check size availability separately from how the garment fits a person.
You can upload product photos to Torgsoft. Photos added when receiving a size range are displayed on every product in that range. After adding them, compare the images with the photographed samples and their colors.
For a shared photo of a size range, state the garment size shown and the model’s height. Check the fit of other sizes separately. Adding photos is described in the product card guide; checking sizes is covered on the size-range inventory page.
Accept the files before publication
Compare the photos with the brief and product list. Check that all angles are included, details are sharp, colors match and the fit is visible. Make sure the whole product is shown in the main photo. Compare captions with the sample size and model’s height. Send a specific list of discrepancies for the agreed revisions.
