Choose a discount system based on its terms: a specific percentage for the customer, a purchase threshold for a single transaction, or accumulated purchases. For each option, define the customers, products and time conditions in advance.
Check the outcome using actual sales and profit. Determine whether the increase in sales volume offsets the lower price per item.
Define the goal and the condition for receiving the discount
Write down what result you want to evaluate after launch. Then choose the condition under which the customer will receive a discount. Use this list to make a preliminary choice:
- Fixed discount. Consider it if you want to set a specific percentage for the customer.
- One-time discount. Consider it if the condition should be reaching a specified amount in a single purchase.
- Cumulative discount. Consider it if you want to count the customer’s purchases toward an accumulated total. Decide separately whether to set a time limit for accumulation.
Check the option against your store’s terms. The mechanism itself does not provide a basis for forecasting an increase in sales or profit.
Specify the customers, products and period
Prepare the offer terms before setting it up:
- Customers. Define who is eligible for the discount.
- Products. List the items to which it will apply.
- Eligibility condition. Record the percentage or the required purchase or accumulated amount, according to the mechanism you chose.
- Period. For a temporary promotion, define its start and end. For a cumulative system, record the time condition for accumulation separately.
Before approving the discount amount, check that the resulting price is acceptable. Account for the costs of delivering the goods, attracting the customer and serving them.
What is confirmed in Torgsoft settings
In Torgsoft Start, a fixed discount requires you to enter its percentage in the customer card. A one-time discount in Torgsoft Start applies to a single sale if the purchase amount equals or exceeds the set threshold.
In the general guide to discount policy, the cumulative system takes all of the customer’s purchases into account. For Torgsoft Start, the “Unlimited” option is confirmed: accumulating the required amount has no time limit.
The promotion period in Torgsoft is set in the “Start date” and “End date” fields in “Marketing — Promotions”. Before setting it up, check that your chosen scenario matches the guide for your edition of the software.
Test a purchase before launch
Compare the test purchase result with the terms you recorded. Check the customer’s eligibility for the discount, the product list and whether the eligibility condition has been met. For a temporary offer, check the specified period.
If the result differs from what you planned, adjust the settings before launching the offer.
Assess sales and profit after launch
Check gross and net profit. Determine whether the actual increase in sales volume offsets the lower price per item.
Compare the result with the goal you recorded before launch. Use these data to decide whether to continue the discount or change its terms.
