Banking POS Terminal and Torgsoft on a Remote Server: How to Set Up Operations via RDP

If Torgsoft runs on a remote server and the cashier connects to it via the internet, the bank terminal still remains physically in the store. This is where questions arise: can the terminal be connected via USB, why does a payment sometimes go through on the terminal but not in Torgsoft, is a separate network required, and what should you do if card payment issues appear after moving to a server?

For a network bank terminal to work with Torgsoft on a remote server, the server must have access to the terminal in the store. For this, the store needs a static external public IP address, and port forwarding must be configured correctly on the router.

What working via RDP means

RDP is a remote desktop. The Torgsoft software runs on the server, while the cashier sees it over the internet from the computer in the store and works as if the software were running on their PC.

For example, a business owner has three stores. The Torgsoft database is hosted on one server, and the sales staff in each store access the software via remote desktop. This setup is used, in particular, with the Torgsoft Terminal Version and when working with a remote server.

The situation with a bank terminal is more complicated: it is located next to the cashier in the store, while the software that must send the payment amount to it and receive the transaction result runs on a server in another location.

Why a USB connection via RDP may be unstable

With a standard local checkout, a bank terminal can be connected to the computer via COM/USB. Torgsoft supports this type of connection for compatible terminals.

When working via RDP, the communication path becomes more complicated: the terminal is physically connected to the computer in the store, while Torgsoft runs on a remote server.

Due to the instability of such a connection, «Error No. 3. Connection error» may occur, the terminal may print a «CANCELLED» receipt, or the bank transaction may be completed on the terminal but not completed in Torgsoft.

Therefore, if payments via USB/COM became unstable after moving Torgsoft to a remote server, you should check how the bank terminal communicates with the server.

When it is better to connect the terminal via Ethernet

For terminals that support the corresponding network-based POS integration, Ethernet can be used instead of COM/USB.

In this case, the bank terminal is connected to the store network, and Torgsoft communicates with it over the network. This option does not depend on forwarding the COM port through a remote desktop session.

For B-POS, Torgsoft provides two connection types: COM/USB or Ethernet. With Ethernet, the terminal's IP address and port are used for communication.

You should not switch the bank terminal to another operating mode on your own. Contact the bank that services the terminal and ask whether the specific device supports the required POS integration mode and which parameters need to be configured.

How to organize the connection if Torgsoft is hosted on a VPS

If the Torgsoft server is not located in the store, simply connecting the bank terminal to Ethernet is not enough. The remote server must be able to access the terminal over the internet.

How to organize the connection if Torgsoft is hosted on a VPS?

For this, the store needs to:

  1. Obtain a static external public IP address from the internet service provider.

  2. Configure port forwarding on the router for the required ports to the bank terminal.

  3. If necessary, check firewall rules and other network restrictions.

  4. Specify the required connection parameters in Torgsoft.

  5. Check the connection between the remote server and the bank terminal.

The specific parameters depend on the terminal model, bank, and POS integration protocol, so the configuration should be coordinated with a Torgsoft specialist and the bank's technical support.

What to check during setup

A practical sequence can be as follows:

  1. Inform the Torgsoft specialist that the software runs via RDP/VPS and that a bank terminal needs to be connected.

  2. Specify the terminal model, bank, and current POS integration method.

  3. If COM/USB is used and payment issues occur, check whether it is possible to switch to a network connection.

  4. Coordinate the required terminal operating mode with the bank.

  5. If Torgsoft is hosted on a remote VPS, obtain a static external public IP address for the store and configure forwarding of the required ports on the router.

  6. Check whether the terminal is accessible over the network from the remote server.

  7. After setup, perform a test payment and refund.

The exact setup depends on the specific equipment and integration method. Therefore, you should not open random ports or change network settings on your own without understanding what they are needed for.

Important Torgsoft setting when working via RDP

For B-POS, Torgsoft has the «Ignore cash register confirmation» parameter. It can be used when working via RDP with the appropriate terminal mode.

The reason is practical: without the correct configuration, a situation may occur where the bank terminal processes the payment but Torgsoft does not complete the transaction.

It is better to check this parameter together with a specialist during the initial setup rather than changing it yourself after every failure.

What to do if the money was charged from the card but Torgsoft did not complete the sale

In this situation, do not immediately process the card again.

First, check whether the bank transaction was successful. If the terminal confirmed the payment but Torgsoft did not receive it, another attempt may result in the customer being charged twice.

A situation where the payment is completed on the terminal but does not appear in Torgsoft may occur, in particular, due to COM/USB communication issues when working via RDP.

The rule for the cashier is simple: if the payment result is unclear, do not repeat the payment until the first transaction has been checked.

Can you continue working if the terminal is temporarily not connected to Torgsoft?

Yes. A bank payment and the automatic connection between Torgsoft and the terminal are not the same thing.

If the integration option is enabled but there is temporarily no connection to the terminal, you can disable «Use connection with bank terminal» in Torgsoft and enter the card transaction details manually after processing the payment on the terminal itself.

This is a backup method of operation, not a replacement for properly configured integration.

How does PECR work?

The bank terminal confirms the card payment, while PECR registers the payment transaction and generates a fiscal receipt.

If bank terminal integration is configured, Torgsoft can receive the data from the completed card transaction and use it when generating the fiscal receipt. For some supported protocols, the software receives, in particular, information about the payment device, payment system, authorization, and transaction.

Therefore, after setting up a remote checkout, it is important to check not only whether the money was charged from the card, but the entire cycle: Torgsoft → bank terminal → transaction result returned to Torgsoft → PECR.

If the store has several Sole Proprietorships

In Torgsoft, bank transactions can be linked to merchants and settlement accounts.

A merchant is a set of bank settings that determines which seller's account receives the payment.

The corresponding settlement account is specified in the terminal settings for the transaction. If several available merchants of the same type are configured for one account, Torgsoft may offer a choice during payment.

Therefore, when several Sole Proprietorships operate in one store, it is not enough simply to ensure communication between the server and the bank terminal. You also need to check that the bank has registered the required merchants and that the merchants in Torgsoft are correctly linked to the settlement accounts.

What to tell the bank and the Torgsoft specialist

A business owner does not need to determine protocols, ports, and other technical parameters independently. However, it is important to describe the setup correctly.

For example: «Torgsoft runs on a remote server via RDP. The bank terminal is located in the store. POS integration is required so that the payment amount can be sent from Torgsoft. The terminal is currently connected via USB/COM».

If you need to switch to a network connection, you should also ask your internet service provider whether a static external public IP address can be provided for the store.

The Torgsoft specialist and the bank's technical support can then determine which connection method is supported by the specific terminal and which network parameters need to be configured.

Key points

For a local checkout, COM/USB can be a suitable way to connect a bank terminal.

If Torgsoft runs via RDP and COM/USB causes cancelled transactions, or a payment is completed on the terminal but is not recorded in the software, you should check whether the terminal can be connected over the network.

For a bank terminal to work with Torgsoft on a remote VPS, the store needs a static external public IP address, and the required ports must be forwarded on the router.

After setup, be sure to test the entire workflow: a test payment, the transaction result being returned to Torgsoft, generation of the fiscal receipt, and a refund.
