External "white" static IP address: when it is needed to work with Torgsoft

An external (“white”) static IP address is a permanent IP address provided by the internet service provider, through which the Torgsoft server is accessible from the Internet. It is required for stable remote work, the mobile app, and some integrations.

This guide concerns network settings that affect external access to the Torgsoft server and connected equipment, so it should be followed carefully. An incorrectly configured external IP address, port forwarding, or routing can not only stop remote work, but also create risks for server security. Before making changes, record the current IP addresses, ports, and router rules. If you do not manage the network infrastructure yourself, it is better to coordinate these actions with a system administrator or provider.

When Torgsoft needs an external static IP address

A static external IP address is mandatory if at least one of the following scenarios is used:

  1. Remote work via a terminal server (RDP)
Cash registers or office PCs connect to the central Torgsoft server via the Internet.

  2. Torgsoft mobile app
A smartphone or tablet connects to the database outside the local network (via 3G/4G or another Wi-Fi network).

  3. Bank POS terminals when the cashier workstation operates via RDP
The server sends the payment amount directly to the terminal in the store through open ports.

  4. Synchronization with marketplaces and online stores
A permanent address is required for stable access to XML price lists and custom web services.

  5. Integration with banking APIs
Some banks require a fixed IP address to add it to the “allowlist”.

How to understand that the problems are related to the absence of a static IP

  • After rebooting the router, it is impossible to connect to the server via RDP.

  • The mobile app does not connect to the database, although everything works on the local network.

  • The POS terminal does not receive the payment amount during remote cashier work.

  • Integration with the marketplace periodically “drops” without any changes in the settings.

Why access problems occur without a static IP

  • The provider gives a dynamic IP address that changes with each reconnection.

  • Or a “gray” IP address is used (CG-NAT), which is not available for incoming connections at all.

  • Under such conditions, it is impossible to configure stable remote access and port forwarding.

How to get and configure an external static IP address

1. Order the service from the provider

Contact your internet provider’s support service and formulate the request like this:

  • Service request:
“I need an external static IP address (real / white IP).”

  • Reason:
“For remote access to the server via RDP and operation of banking equipment.”

  • Technical detail:
“Port forwarding must be available on the router (Port Forwarding).”

 For mobile Internet (4G modems):
Check the availability of this service in advance — most standard plans use a “gray” IP.

2. Configure the network after connection

After obtaining a static IP address:

  1. Assign a fixed internal IP address to the server on the local network.

  2. Configure Port Forwarding on the router:

    •    RDP — port 3389 (or a changed one).

    •    Mobile app — usually port 6001.

    •    POS terminals — depending on the model (for example, 2000 or 3000).

How to check that the external IP is working correctly

  1. Open an IP address checking website from the server PC.

  2. Reboot the router.

  3. Check that the external IP address has not changed.

  4. Try connecting to the server from another network.

How to avoid problems with the external IP

  • Monitor payment for the “Static IP” service — if it is disconnected, the provider may switch you back to a dynamic address.

  • Do not confuse:

    • the internal IP (assigned by the router),

    • the external static IP (assigned by the provider).

  • Record all ports and IP addresses in the internal technical documentation.

What is important to remember

If Torgsoft is used outside the local network — remote cash registers, the mobile app, POS terminals, or integrations — an external “white” static IP address is a mandatory technical requirement.
