Error "Private key file not found": how to restore the path to the KEP
The QES private key file is critically important for the operation of the pECR and, at the same time, sensitive from a security standpoint, so its location should be changed carefully. Do not store the key on USB flash drives, in temporary folders, on the Desktop, or in places that may be accidentally cleared or become unavailable after a restart. Before changing the path, make sure that you are using the correct key file and know its password. If separate keys are used for the operation of the checkout, for both the pECR and the employee, check both paths. If you need help, contact Torgsoft technical support.
The «Private key file not found» error occurs when the software cannot find the physical file of your key at the path that was previously specified in the settings. This happens if the file was moved (for example, from the Desktop to another folder), deleted, or if it was stored on a flash drive or disk (for example, drive D) that is currently disconnected or unavailable. Another possible cause is a change in the drive letter or the presence of special characters in the file name.

How to restore access to the key file

Check the name of the key file. Make sure that the name does not contain special characters or certain Cyrillic letters that the system may recognize incorrectly (for example, replacing the problematic letter «й» with the digit «1» or using standard Latin characters solves the reading issue).

Move the key to a secure location. To prevent the path to the key from being lost in the future (if you accidentally clear the Desktop or remove the flash drive), copy the key file directly to the folder with the Torgsoft software (usually this is C:\TORGSOFT\PROGRAM\, where you can create a separate folder for keys named Key).

Specify the new path in Torgsoft:

Open the settings of the pECR (or the card of a specific employee).

Click on the cashier key selection, go to the program folder where you have just moved it, and select this file.

Enter the key password and click «Read».

After reconfiguring, be sure to restart the Torgsoft software at the checkout so that the updated key path is applied.
