The "Discount" column disappears in the sale: how to configure seller rights

The «Sale» mode in Torgsoft is the cashier’s main working window, designed for recording product sales, quickly scanning barcodes, identifying customers, and processing payments with buyers. When working with sales, it is important for the business owner to control whether the seller has the right to independently give the customer a discount or change the product price. This is a security issue, because uncontrolled discounting may lead to financial losses, calculation errors, or abuse by staff.

In most cases, entrepreneurs contact technical support with the following problem: when trying to give a customer a discount or change the price, the seller finds that the input field has become inactive, or the program shows an error about missing access rights, or there is no access to the columns with discount information at all. Most often, this situation occurs after the business owner tries to protect themselves from fraud, for example, so that the seller cannot arbitrarily give discounts and pocket the difference, and sets strict role restrictions that completely block staff from working with discounts.

Separately from the rights to give a discount, you can also configure the display of columns related to discounts in the «Sale» form. For example, the owner can determine whether the seller will see the «% discount», «Amount», or «Discount type» columns. Column visibility is an interface setting, not the right to give a discount itself.

Below, we will look at why the discount column disappears and how to correctly configure the seller’s rights to keep control over the cash registers without paralyzing the store’s work.

Reason 1. The column is simply hidden in the form view settings

The seller’s right to give a discount and the visibility of discount columns are different settings.

Even if the seller is allowed or prohibited from working with discounts, the owner can separately configure which columns will be displayed in the «Sale» form.

Before changing complex role settings, it is worth checking whether the column was accidentally hidden visually.

The program allows you to flexibly configure column display settings on any working form.

  1. Open the «Sale» window.

  2. Click the Settings button or use the Ctrl + E key combination, which opens the «Columns» editing form.

  3. The form contains a list of all available columns. The columns currently displayed on the screen are marked with a checkmark.

  4. Check whether there is a checkmark next to the «% discount», «Amount», or «Discount type» columns.

  5. If the checkmark cannot be set, or the required column is not there at all, this means that the user is working under a role with strict access restrictions to this data.

Reason 1: The column is simply hidden in the form view settings

Reason 2. Restrictions in access role settings

Flexible role access configuration allows the owner or director to clearly separate what the seller sees and what they can do. If the discount column is blocked systemically, the owner needs to adjust the rights.

To do this, log in to the program as the Owner with full rights:

  1. Go to the main menu item Settings -> Role settings.

  2. Click the Resources button and select your seller’s role, for example, «Seller» or a specially created role such as «Seller+Goods Receipt+Discount», etc.

  3. In the program resource tree, in the branches related to the «Sale» working form, you can allow or prohibit access to columns related to discounts in detail.

  4. Additional settings are located in the Settings -> Options -> Role tab menu. Select the seller’s role from the list.

  5. Pay attention to the restrictions related to changing the discount percentage.

Reason 3. Strict restrictions of the «Seller» category

Torgsoft has a system restriction that technical support often calls «Seller-Seller». It is activated automatically.

If, in the «Employees» directory (Settings -> Employee), the program user is strictly linked to an employee whose «Category» field is set specifically to Seller, a number of system restrictions are automatically applied to that user. These restrictions include a ban on independently changing the sale date, deleting an item from the receipt without confirmation, and, in some cases, applying free-form discounts without administrator permission. If you need the cashier to have more freedom, for example, to be able to manage discounts, it may be worth changing their category to «Employee».

Summary:

In Torgsoft, the seller’s right to give a discount is configured through the access role and additional role parameters. These settings determine whether the seller can change the discount, the sale price, or apply a manual discount during product sale in general. Separately, you can configure the visibility of discount columns in the «Sale» form. This only determines whether the user sees the corresponding columns in the sales table.

If the seller cannot give the customer a discount, the owner needs to check the access rights in Role settings, the parameters on the Role tab, as well as the employee category. If the problem is only that the column is missing from the screen, it is enough to check the column display settings using Ctrl + E.
