How to speed up the accounting software?

09.02.2026 13:24

This guide will help you find the main reasons for Torgsoft slowdowns and perform basic steps to speed it up: checking SQL database maintenance, program settings, server hardware resources, and network connection stability.

When this guide can help

Adding an item to a document is noticeably slower than before.
Forms, lists, or reports open with a delay.
The SQL Express database takes up a lot of space.
The server or workstation has not been restarted for a long time.
The program runs unstably at certain moments or on specific workstations.

How to know if the accounting program is running slowly

The interface periodically freezes or a "Not responding" message appears.
Searching for an item by barcode or name is slow.
After scanning, the item is added to the document with a delay.
SQL Timeout or System.OutOfMemory errors appear during operation.
Large forms, lists, or reports open slowly.

What most often slows down the program

The database does not undergo regular maintenance: indexes and statistics are not updated.
In SQL Express, the database already occupies a significant volume, which in itself begins to affect performance.
The program uses settings that create an unnecessary load during operation.
The server or workstation uses HDD instead of SSD or has insufficient RAM.
There is an unstable network connection between the cash register and the server.

How to speed up Torgsoft

Follow the steps sequentially: first, check the database maintenance and program settings, and only then proceed to the hardware and network.

Step 1. Check database maintenance

This is the most common cause of a slowdown.

Update indexes and statistics

Path: file → service → restore and reorganize indexes and update statistics.

This operation optimizes the data structure and speeds up search and form opening.

Important: if you already have a nightly cost calculation task set up, which simultaneously performs database maintenance, you do not need to repeat this action manually on a regular basis. However, if there are symptoms of a slowdown, it can be performed unscheduled.

Close the maximum number of possible periods

Path: analysis → period → close the maximum number of possible periods.

Before clearing old statistics, you must first close the maximum number of periods.

Delete statistics of closed periods

Path: analysis → period → delete statistics of closed periods.

Warning: this is not a minor technical cleanup. The operation deletes detailed data for closed periods and transfers only the balances for finances, debts, and goods. Before execution, always create an archive copy of the database and apply this action only when you truly understand its consequences.

Check the database size

For SQL Express, the problem may start even before reaching the 10 GB limit. If the database already occupies approximately 4–5 GB or more, this can affect performance.

In such a situation, you should:

analyze whether cleanup or archiving of old data is needed;
consider switching to the full edition of SQL Server if the database continues to grow.

Step 2. Optimize Torgsoft settings

Enable the static method for calculating costs and balances

Path: settings → parameters → warehouse → method for calculating costs and balances.

Select the "Static" method. This reduces the load on the system during the movement of goods.

Check the settings for selling below cost control

This setting is defined for a specific user in the user card, not through the general access section.

If you use such a check, do not leave a mode that forces the system to perform unnecessary checks every time without a real need.

Enable simplified mode in the "Clients" form

For weak PCs or large databases, this can have a significant effect.

In the "Clients" form, enable "Simplified mode". This reduces the load when opening the form and working with the client list.

Step 3. Check the server and work environment

Restart the server regularly

If the server has been running for a long time without a restart, this can affect the overall state of the system.

It is recommended to set up a server restart 2-3 times a week during non-working hours, provided it does not contradict your workflow.

Check the disk

For a database, an SSD is critically important. If the database is hosted on an HDD, this is one of the most typical reasons for slow performance.

Switching from HDD to SSD usually provides the most noticeable speed boost.

Check RAM

It is desirable for the server to have at least 8 GB of RAM, and more for a large database or multiple workstations.

If memory is constantly occupied almost completely, the system will start working slower.

Check network stability

For cash registers and other critical workstations, an Ethernet connection is recommended.

Wi-Fi itself is not an issue, but the quality and stability of the network are crucial. If the connection is unstable, it can also create the feeling of a "slow program".

How to check the result

After performing the steps, check the operation in the specific scenarios where the problem occurred:

open the form that previously opened slowly;
perform an item search;
add an item to the sales document;
verify whether the freezes and errors like SQL Timeout have disappeared.

Evaluate the result not by an abstract universal standard in seconds, but compared to how the program worked before optimization. In large databases, certain forms may take longer to open than in small ones.

How to prevent future slowdowns

If a nightly database maintenance task is not configured, update indexes and statistics manually at least once a week.
Regularly close possible periods in the analysis → period menu.
Monitor the database size, especially on SQL Express.
Use an SSD for the database server.
Ensure there is an adequate amount of RAM.
For cash registers and servers, use a stable network connection; preferably Ethernet.

What is important to remember

If Torgsoft works slowly, start with database maintenance: update indexes and statistics, check closed periods, and monitor the database size. Next, check the program settings, disk, memory, and network stability. In most cases, these actions yield a noticeable result without needing to replace the entire infrastructure.
