Start working on your online store’s SEO by checking important product and category pages. Find out their indexing status, check technical accessibility, and review internal links. Then work on headings, short descriptions, and information that helps shoppers choose a product.
Separately, check which pages are suitable for Product structured data and assess Core Web Vitals. Track the results of changes in Google Search Console using clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position for the selected period.
Check product and category indexing
Make a list of important store pages. For each one, open the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console. It shows the current indexing status and lets you check the page as it is currently available.
Record the result next to the page address. This will give you a list of pages for further review.
Check the basic technical requirements
For the pages on your list, check three indexing requirements:
- Googlebot is not blocked.
- The page returns HTTP 200.
- The page has content that can be indexed.
Send the developer the addresses of pages that do not meet these requirements. In the task, specify exactly which requirement needs to be checked.
Check internal links
Ask the developer to check the HTML code for links between categories and products. Use links with an <a> element and an href attribute. Google can crawl this format.
Review headings and short descriptions
Review the text in the <title> elements on product and category pages. It should describe the specific page clearly and briefly. For a product page, check that the heading names that product. For a category, check that it explains which products it contains.
Check the meta description, the page’s short description. It should explain the page’s content appropriately to shoppers. Make sure the description matches what people will find after they click through to the page.
Add original information to help shoppers choose
Review the text on category and product pages. Check whether it includes original information, research, or analysis that is useful to shoppers.
For a product page, prepare an explanation of its features based on your own checks. For a category, compare the attributes shoppers can use to choose a product. Include only information that the store can verify.
Choose pages for Product structured data
Use Product structured data for rich product results on pages for a single product or variants of the same product. Check that each page included in the developer’s task meets this requirement.
Assess page loading and interaction
Use Core Web Vitals for a basic usability assessment. These metrics measure real-world loading, interactivity, and visual stability.
Give the developer the assessment results along with the addresses of pages that need work.
Track search metrics after changes
Record which pages you changed and when. In the Google Search Console Search results report, assess clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position for the selected period. Keep this data with the list of completed work.
Online store audit plan
Organize the work in this order:
- Check indexing for important products and categories.
- Address unmet technical requirements.
- Check the format of internal links.
- Review headings, short descriptions, and useful information on the pages.
- Choose suitable pages for Product structured data.
- Assess Core Web Vitals.
- Review search metrics after the changes.
Send product descriptions from Torgsoft to your website
If you manage product descriptions in your accounting software, the Torgsoft “Online Store Synchronization” option lets you send them to your website.
Before sending them, check that the information in each description is useful and verifiable. After sending, review the final page separately: compare its text with the prepared description and check the heading and meta description.
