Format Codes as Text Before Excel Import

02.11.2012 00:00

This video is from 2012. The program’s design has changed considerably, and it has more features. However, the way many modes work is still the same or very similar. We are updating the knowledge base and video lessons. Since 2022, videos have been exclusively in Ukrainian.

Why the format matters

Excel may convert long codes into numbers or remove leading zeros. As a result, an item code or barcode in the file may no longer match the product label. Before importing, check that columns containing codes use text format and preserve every character. Make a copy of the file so you can compare the original values with the prepared ones.

Checking the import

The 2012 video shows one way to add an apostrophe to Excel cells. This is not required for every file: what matters is that the code is correct and stored as text. After preparing the file, match the columns in the import wizard, check a few products, and only then process the entire purchase invoice.
