Label printer settings in Torgsoft (USB / LAN)

Instructions for connecting and configuring a label (tag) printer in Torgsoft on Windows.

The label printer must be configured strictly in order: first install the driver and do a test print in Windows, then set the correct label size in the driver, after that select the printer and template in Torgsoft, and only then check label loading and sensor calibration. If even one of these steps is skipped, the printer may print blank labels, skip labels, shift the print, or feed an endless strip. Pay special attention to the Stock/Page Setup parameter and the physical position of the label sensor.

This article describes the full cycle: from installing the driver in Windows to selecting a label printer in Torgsoft, setting the label size in the driver, choosing a print template, loading the label roll correctly, and calibrating the label sensor. Following the sequence is critical for stable printing without skips, shifts, or blank labels.

When you need to configure a label printer

  • when connecting a new label printer for the first time;

  • after reinstalling Windows or replacing the PC;

  • if the printer was reconnected to another USB port;

  • if the print has shifted, blank labels, skipped labels, or garbled characters have appeared.

How to understand that the problem is in the label printer settings

  • the printer is connected, but Torgsoft does not see it;

  • blank labels are printed, or every other label is printed;

  • printing goes as an endless strip;

  • the barcode or text goes beyond the label boundaries;

  • the Windows queue shows the status “Deferred printing” or “Work offline”.

Why labels print incorrectly

  • the Windows driver is not installed or the wrong driver is installed;

  • the wrong Stock / Page Setup is set in the driver (A4 or the wrong label size);

  • the label template in Torgsoft does not match the physical roll size;

  • the printer is not selected in Torgsoft settings for this workstation;

  • changing the USB port created a “copy” of the printer in the system;

  • the label is loaded incorrectly;

  • the label sensor (Gap Sensor) is shifted or dirty;

  • incorrect Gap Sensor calibration.

How to configure a label printer

Step 1. Connection and driver in Windows

Before configuring it in Torgsoft, the printer must print correctly from Windows.

  1. Connect the printer directly to the PC via USB (preferably rear ports).

  2. Even if you plan to use the printer over the network (LAN), first connect and configure it via USB.

  3. Download the driver exactly for your printer model:

  • if not, download it from the manufacturer’s official website (Xprinter, Rongta, Citizen, Epson, etc.).

For label printers used via RDP, drivers from 2018–2019 often work more stably than newer ones.

Checking the port after installing the driver

After installing the driver, be sure to check the port.

  • Control Panel → Devices and Printers

  • Right-click the printer → Printer Properties → Ports tab

  • The checkmark must be on the correct USB00X with the printer name (for example: USB08 … XP-420B)

  • If another port is selected, change it → Apply → OK

Setting the label size in the driver (important)

For label printers, the roll size is set in the driver settings, not in the standard Windows settings.

  1. Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

  2. Right-click the printer → Printer Properties.

  3. General tab → Preferences… button

  4. The printer printing settings window will open.

  5. Go to the Page Setup or Stock tab.

In this section:

  • select an existing Stock with the correct size or click New… and create a new one;

  • specify the actual physical label size (for example, 30×20 mm, 58×40 mm, 100×50 mm);

  • check the Preview, orientation, and confirm the changes.

If A4 or an incorrect Stock is left here, labels will be skipped, printed “every other one,” or cut off. Sometimes the template in Torgsoft compensates for the incorrect Stock in the driver. But for some printer models, it does not.

Checking printing from Windows

  • Perform a test print from the driver.

  • If the test does not print or the printing is incorrect, it is too early to move on to Torgsoft.

If connection via LAN (Ethernet) is planned

After printing via USB works stably:

  1. Download the utility from the manufacturer to configure network settings.

  2. Assign the printer a static IP address (for example, 192.168.0.120).

  3. Remember the IP, subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0), and gateway (the router IP).

  4. Save the settings in the printer utility and restart the printer.

  5. Go to Devices and Printers → right-click the printer (installed via USB) → Printer Properties → Ports tab → Add Port.

  6. Select Standard TCP/IP Port → New Port → enter the printer IP → Next.

  7. If prompted, select “Generic Network Card” → Finish.

  8. Check the new TCP/IP port → Apply → OK.

To check the printer IP address: turn off the printer → hold Feed → turn it on and keep holding for 2–3 seconds → release. A self-test with the IP will be printed.

Step 2. Selecting the label printer in Torgsoft

  • Settings → Printer Selection

  • In the Labels field, select Label Printer

  • Make sure an office printer or receipt printer is not selected

  • Restart the Torgsoft program if the label template has already been selected correctly; if not, then after the next step.

Step 3. Label templates in Torgsoft

  • Settings → Label Print Settings

  • Select the template that matches the label size

  • Save the changes: restart the Torgsoft program

Step 4. Loading the labels and the sensor

Loading

  • the label must be inserted with the thermal-sensitive side toward the printhead;

  • a reversed roll results in blank printing.

Label sensor (Gap Sensor)

  • the sensor must be under the label, not shifted to the side;

  • the sensor must be clean, without dust, glue, or paper residue.

Step 5. Gap Sensor calibration

Calibration is required if:

  • labels are skipped;

  • printing goes between labels;

  • the printer prints “every other label”.

Usually:

  • turn off the printer;

  • hold Feed;

  • turn on the printer and hold the button until calibration starts.

Sign of correct calibration: when Feed is pressed, exactly one label comes out.

How to check printing after setup

  • print a test label from an item;

  • check that labels are printed one by one;

  • there is no “Deferred printing” or “Work offline” status in the Windows queue.

How to avoid problems with label printing

  • use one USB port;

  • Windows scaling — 100%;

  • disable USB power saving;

  • do not update the driver unnecessarily if printing is stable.

What is important to remember

Label printing is stable if:

test printing in Windows works;
the correct Stock is set in the driver;
the printer is selected in Torgsoft in the “Labels” field;
the template matches the label size;
the label is loaded correctly;
the sensor is clean and calibrated;
when Feed is pressed, one label comes out.
