Setting up the check printer in Torgsoft (USB / LAN)

Instructions for connecting and setting up a receipt printer (58 mm or 80 mm) in Torgsoft on Windows.

Receipt printer setup affects the printing of non-fiscal receipts, copies of PRRO receipts, warranty cards, and orders, so it should be performed step by step: first the driver and a test print in Windows, then selecting the printer and template in Torgsoft. If you skip the driver check, choose the wrong paper width, or change the USB port after setup, the printer may print gibberish, cropped text, or not print at all. If you are setting up printing via LAN or RDP, also check the connection port and network stability.

The article describes the complete process: from installing the driver in Windows to selecting the printer in Torgsoft, setting up the receipt template, and checking printing.
This setup is used for printing non-fiscal receipts, copies of PRRO receipts, warranty cards, and orders.

When you need to configure a receipt printer

  • when connecting a new receipt printer for the first time;

  • after reinstalling Windows or replacing the PC;

  • if the printer was reconnected to another USB port;

  • if gibberish, blurred text is printed, the receipt is cut off on the left or right, or nothing is printed at all.

How to tell that the issue is in the printer settings

  • the printer is connected, but Torgsoft does not see it;

  • printing goes as an endless strip of gibberish;

  • text is cut off on the left or right;

  • in the Windows queue, the status is “Delayed Printing” or “Work Offline”.

Why the receipt printer prints incorrectly

  • the Windows driver is not installed or the wrong driver is installed;

  • the wrong paper size is set in the driver (A4 instead of 58 or 80 mm);

  • a receipt template is selected in Torgsoft that does not match the paper width;

  • the printer is not selected in Torgsoft settings for this workstation;

  • changing the USB port created a “copy” of the printer in the system.

How to configure a receipt printer

Step 1. Connection and driver in Windows

Before configuring in Torgsoft, the printer must print correctly from Windows.

  1. Connect the printer via USB directly to the PC (preferably to the rear ports).

  2. Even if you plan to use it over the network (LAN), first connect it via USB.

  3. Download the driver exactly for your model:

  • if the printer was purchased from Torgsoft, use the verified driver from the product page at https://store.torgsoft.ua/;
  • if not, download it from the manufacturer’s official website (Xprinter, Rongta, POS-58, Citizen, Epson, etc.).

   4. During installation (if a settings window appears), check:

  • paper width: 58 mm or 80 mm (if the width is incorrect, the text will be cut off);
  • type: thermal paper;
  • margins: 0 mm, if the parameter is available.

   5. After installation, check the port:

   Control Panel → Devices and Printers → right-click the printer → Printer Properties → Ports tab.
   The checkmark must be on the correct USB00X with the printer name (for example, USB08 … XP-58C).
   If not, change the port → Apply → OK.

   6. To check or change the paper width:

   right-click the printer → Printing Preferences → Advanced tab → select 58 mm or 80 mm.

   7. Click “Test Page” or “Test Print”.

   If the test page printed correctly and without errors, you can move on.

If connection via Ethernet (LAN) is planned

  1. Download the utility from the manufacturer for configuring network parameters.

  2. Assign the printer a static IP address (for example, 192.168.0.120).

  3. Remember the IP, subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0), and gateway (router IP).

  4. Save the settings in the printer utility and restart it.

  5. Go to Devices and Printers → right-click the printer (installed via USB) → Printer Properties → Ports tab → Add Port.

  6. Select Standard TCP/IP Port → New Port → enter the printer IPnext → select “Generic Network Card”, if prompted → Finish.

  7. Check the box next to the new TCP/IP port → Apply → OK.

To check the printer’s IP address:
turn off the printer → hold down the Feed button → turn it on and hold for 2–3 seconds → release. A self-test with the parameters, including the IP, will be printed.

Step 2. Selecting the printer in Torgsoft

  1. Open Settings → Printer Selection.

  2. In the Non-fiscal receipt field, select your printer from the list.

  3. Restart the Torgsoft program.

The same printer is used for printing copies of PRRO receipts, warranty cards, and orders.

Step 3. Choosing a receipt template according to paper width

  1. Open the print template settings in Torgsoft.

  2. Select a receipt template that matches your printer’s paper width:

  • 58 mm template — for printers with narrow paper;
  • 80 mm template — for wide paper.

  3. Save the changes.

If a template for the wrong width is selected, the receipt may be cut off on the left or right even if the driver settings are correct.

Step 4. Check

  • Make a test sale in Torgsoft and print a non-fiscal receipt.

  • Check that the text is clear, nothing is cut off, and there is no gibberish.

  • In the Windows queue, the printer must not have the status “Delayed Printing”, “Work Offline”, or “Offline”.

How to avoid receipt printing issues

  • do not switch the USB port after setup;

  • Windows screen scaling should be 100% (125–150% often breaks the layout);

  • disable USB power saving: Device Manager → USB Controllers → Properties → Power Management → uncheck the box;

  • do not update the driver unnecessarily if everything is working stably.

What is important to remember

Receipt printing is stable if:

  • the Windows test page prints normally;

  • the paper width 58 or 80 mm is correctly specified in the driver print settings;

  • a receipt template matching the same paper width is selected in Torgsoft;

  • the printer is selected in Torgsoft in the “Non-fiscal receipt” section.

If the receipt is printed with gibberish or “garbage”: reinstall the driver from the Torgsoft product page. If there is a utility from the manufacturer, change the Code Page (CP437 / CP850 / CP1251 depending on the model). After that, restart the computer and the printer.
