If a large document was mistakenly sent to a receipt or label printer, printing should be stopped as soon as possible so as not to waste paper and block further work. In most cases, it is enough to turn off the printer and clear the print queue in Windows, and if the task hangs — restart the print spooler service.

It is better to follow this instruction immediately after an erroneous print start, while the printer has not yet had time to print excess. If you simply turn off the device, but do not clear the queue in Windows, after turning it on again, the document may start printing again. If you are not sure which printer is selected in the system or are afraid to stop the wrong service, it is better to contact technical support.

How to cancel printing if a large document was accidentally sent to the receipt/label printer

Step 1. Physical stop of the printer

  1. Immediately turn off the power of the receipt printer using the button on the device itself. This will stop continuous printing.
  2. Wait 5–10 seconds. Do not turn on the device yet.

Step 2. Clearing the print queue via the Windows interface

  1. Press the Windows key, type Printers & scanners (or «Devices and Printers») in the search, and press Enter.
  2. Find the printer to which the erroneous print was sent in the list, and click on it.
  3. Select the item Open print queue (or «See what's printing»).
  4. In the queue window, open the top menu Printer and click Cancel All Documents (or right-click on a specific document and select «Cancel»).

Step 3. Forced clearing (if the document is not deleted and the queue is «stuck»)

If the standard cancellation did not work, it is necessary to force restart the system print service:

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Win + R.
  2. In the window that appears, type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. Find Print Spooler in the list of services.
  4. Right-click on it and select Restart (or first «Stop», and then «Start»).
  5. Close the services window and make sure the printer's print queue is now empty.

Step 4. Checking the result

  1. Turn on the receipt printer.
  2. Make sure the printer does not start printing the old document again.
  3. Make a test print of a receipt or label from your accounting program to ensure the printer is working correctly.
