Product groups: how to automatically group products for promotions and rules without a manual list
Product groups in Torgsoft are a tool for automatically grouping products by common attributes (type, manufacturer, season, etc.) without the need to add each item manually. This makes it possible to set up promotions, discounts, sales plans, and synchronization for dynamic product selections.
The mechanism for creating a group without a manual list is implemented through a system of include and exclude filters.
Where to find the settings
The mode is located in the main menu: Merchandising — Product groups.
Algorithm for creating a dynamic group

To create a group that will be filled with products automatically based on specific criteria:
-
Click Add at the top of the window, enter the group Name (for example, "Oversized products" or "Summer collection") and, optionally, a description.
-
In the lower part of the window, use the filter tabs instead of the "plus Product" tab. Products will be added to the group automatically if they match the specified criteria.
Available filtering criteria (tabs):
1. Product type
This is the main filter. You add a branch from the product type tree (for example, "Clothing" or more specifically "Jeans").
-
Logic "Include/Exclude". When adding a product type, you choose the switch.
-
Include: only products of this type will be added to the group.
-
Exclude: all products except products of this type will be added (useful for creating groups like "Everything except excise goods", etc.).
-
If a subtype is selected, the system shows the full path (for example, "Souvenirs Ceramics"), which helps accurately identify the branch.
2. Manufacturer

You can narrow the selection of products of the chosen type by adding a manufacturer filter (brand, trademark).
-
The logic works similarly: if you choose Include, the group will contain products of the specified Type + the specified Manufacturer. Other manufacturers within this type will be ignored.
3. Season
Allows you to filter products by seasonality (for example, create a group for the "Winter 2024" sale).
4. Supplier
Allows you to select products purchased from a specific counterparty.
-
Important nuance. The filter works based on the last delivery. If a product was previously supplied by the selected supplier, but the most recent batch came from another one, the product will be excluded from the product group.
How it works in practice
You create a "rule", not a list. For example, you added to the group Product type: "Footwear" and Season: "Summer".
-
Result. All existing summer shoes will be included in the group.
-
Dynamic behavior. If tomorrow you create a new product card in the "Footwear" category and set the season to "Summer", that product will automatically become part of this product group (and, accordingly, a promotion linked to this group will apply to it) without any additional actions.
Using product groups

Groups created this way are used for:
-
Setting up promotions. For example, "20% discount for the 'Summer footwear' group".
-
Additional discount conditions. For example, when purchasing an item from the "Strollers" group, the customer receives a higher discount rate.
-
Sales plans. Setting a revenue plan for a specific product category.
-
Synchronization with an online store. For selective product export.
Exceptions (Manual adjustment)
If the automatic filter captured an extra product or did not include a specific item, you can use the "plus Product" tab:
-
Button "Select products prohibited in promotions". Allows you to manually exclude specific SKUs from the group even if they match the filter criteria.
-
Button "Select products allowed in promotions". Allows you to manually add products that do not fall under the group’s general filters.
